100 kW Modules for Wave Roller Project Arrive to Peniche Shipyard (Portugal)

The three 100kW modules for the project Wave Roller arrived to Peniche Shipyard (PNS) on January 2. This is the latest technology from a Finish company, AW-Energy Oy, which produces energy from the waves.

These generators are going to be installed near the sea shore of Peniche, where the prototype was previously tested.

The pre-commercial version of WaveRoller is co-financed by the European Commission through the 7th Framework Programme, a project called SURGE – Simple Underwater production of Renewable Electricity.

This project is expected to be installed during the spring of 2012. This technology produces electricity from the waves in depth of 15 to 30 feet. The beach Almagreira in Peniche has been identified about 4 years ago as the most suitable for this project.
