15m Ro-Pax Ferry ABRO Completes Sea Trials

A 15m Ro-Pax Ferry, ABRO was recently launched by Baltic Workboats in Estonia and has successfully completed sea trials. ABRO will be operated in the Gulf of Riga, Estonia, between the islands of Abruka and Saaremaa.

The small passenger ferry can carry at least 24 passengers. The ferry has a length of 15 m, width 4,6 m, and maximum draft 1.3 m, and a speed of 13 knots.

In addition to passengers, ABRO features a small aft cargo deck. She can carry one pick-up vehicle (up to 5m) or deck cargo that can be loaded onto the vessel over the hydraulically-operated stern visor. Side passenger gates forward of the aft deck lead passengers directly to the cabin, which features 12 seats. Passenger toilet is located on a central corridor. In front of the wheelhouse there is a separated navigation bridge.

ABRO is powered by a SISU main engine, producing 302kw. Strengthened structure and special hull design allow the vessel to operate in 5 cm ice. Decision of to build a vessel based on the proven, ice capable, aluminium pilot boat hull was taken to extend vessel navigation period for at least two months.
