2021-built vessel opens ultra-deepwater market doors for Astro Offshore

Dubai-based offshore vessel operator Astro Offshore, an Adani Group company, has enlarged its fleet with a new multipurpose support vessel (MPSV). This addition is described as the largest vessel in the firm’s fleet.

Astro Offshore has added the 2021-built MPSV Energy Savannah, soon to be renamed Astro Atlas, to its growing fleet, seen as a significant step forward in the company’s expansion into ultra-deepwater operations and new international markets. The 97-meter DP2 MPSV is now perceived to be the largest vessel in the firm’s fleet to date.

Astro Atlas will be deployed under a charter arrangement with Oceaneering International, a subsea engineering and applied technology company, supporting subsea-focused offshore operations in complex deepwater environments.

The UAE-based player elaborated: “This brings together Astro Offshore’s modern, high-spec vessel capabilities with Oceaneering’s established subsea and ROV expertise, enabling efficient execution of construction, installation, and intervention scopes.

“The engagement marks the beginning of a growing working relationship, alongside continued investment in advanced offshore capabilities to support future subsea developments across key markets.”

The vessel, which is equipped with a 150-tonne subsea AHC crane, 25-tonne secondary crane, moonpool, and accommodation for up to 100 personnel, is designed to support a wide range of offshore operations, including subsea construction, cable laying, and pipeline installation.

According to Astro Offshore, Astro Atlas enables it to enter the ultra-deepwater market for the first time, unlocking access to more complex, high-value offshore projects, with the capability to operate in water depths of over 3,000 meters.

The ship’s advanced DP2 system and robust design are said to enable safe and efficient operations in challenging environments, further strengthening the company’s global service offering.

The vessel’s enhanced capabilities and deepwater capacity enable deployment across a wider range of offshore environments, broadening the company’s geographic presence across multiple continents, including Europe, and supporting more complex offshore scopes.
