China: Afai Southern Hands Over “HAIYAO” Ferry to Haitong Shipping

In the afternoon of June 15th 2012, Afai Southern successfully delivered the 35m ferry “HAIYAO” to the owner HAITONG SHIPPING CO.,LTD.ZHUHAI S.E.Z. at Zhuhai Jiuzhou Port.

These 35m aluminum catamaran fast ferries come as Afai Southern co-designed new type of vessels. “HAIYAO” is the sister ship of “HAIJU” delivered in April this year. Its speed and other technical factors are better than design requirement, and she is energy-saving type of ferry.

The vessels accommodate 198 passengers, all seated on the main deck in comfortable reclining seats. A large bar is situated amidships, serving beverages and snacks as well as offering a tourist information service. The vessels are powered by MTU 16V2000 M70 main engines, each producing 1050kW. At the recent sea trials both vessels comfortably achieved their loaded service speed of 28 knots.
