Turkish shipbuilder, Cemre Shipyard launched a state-of-the-art platform supply vessel (PSV), the Polarsyssel a few days ago.

The vessel is being built for the Norwegian Havyard Group based on the order of Icelandic oil service company Fafnir Offshore.

Polarsyssel is a PSV of Havyard 832L L WE design, specially built for operations under extremely harsh conditions in the North Atlantic. She is 88.5 meters long and 17.6 meters wide.

The deck area encompasses 850 square meters including a modular helideck. The vessel will be equipped with a fire-fighting unit, an emergency oil recovery system, a dynamic-positioning system (DP2) for optimal position keeping during operations, refueling system for Jet A-1 fuel, and a night vision detection system for identifying people, oil, and ice in the dark.

Also, on board there will be a twin-jet rescue boat as well as two work, search, and rescue boats.

With the total investment of $55 million, the Polarsyssel represents the biggest offshore project in Iceland.
