‘Short-sighted’ fish quotas under fire

Ministers have condemned the governments of Iceland and the Faroe Islands for ignoring agreed fishing quotas for mackerel. The decisions were described as “short-sighted and selfish,” by Richard Lochhead, the Scottish Fisheries Secretary. The Faroe Islands announced last month that they had set their own quota for the fish, three times higher than that internationally agreed. Iceland set their own unilateral catch quota last month.
