Hantong inks deal for 10 bulkers with Nisshin

Chinese shipbuilder Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry has won an order for the construction of ten 82,000-ton bulk carriers from Japanese shipowner Nisshin Shipping.

The bulkers are scheduled for delivered before August 2023. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

This is the fourth batch of newbuilding orders placed by Nisshin at Hantong since 2013. The shipyard has completed and delivered 18 bulk carroers of different tonnages to the company so far.

“Hantong wins the solid trust from Nisshin by its high quality and timely delivery once again. This time, the two parties efficiently completed the negotiation and signing of contracts and specifications for 10 of the 82,000-ton bulk carriers within three weeks,” the shipbuilder said announcing the deal.

Based on the data from VesselsValue, Hantong Ship Heavy Industry has two more 82,000 dwt bulkers to deliver to Nisshin this year, as well as a compressed natural gas (CNG) carrier being built for Indonesia-based Bahtera Adhiguna.

In January this year, German Oldendorff Carriers took delivery of its  208 K bulk carrier Hugo Oldendorff, built by Hantong Group. The vessel is the second of the two newbuilds the German shipowner ordered back in 2018.

The first from the batch, the 208K Henry Oldendorff, was delivered in December 2020.

On the other hand, Nisshin Shipping has 92 live vessels, 4 sales to be delivered and 29 ships on order not including the latest contract.

These are comprised of 15 Ultramax bulkers slated for delivery this year, 7 handy chemical tankers, 4 handy chemical tankers, 2 MR2 Tankers and one large LNG carrier, with deliveries spread across 2021 and 2022.
