CFE purchases eight LNG cargoes

Mexico’s CFE purchased eight liquefied natural gas cargoes from Trafigura and BP.

The state-owned utility issued a tender on January 12 for thirteen 138,000 cbm cargoes of LNG, with bids linked to an Asian LNG price for delivery from February until November to the Manzanillo import terminal.

According to traders, Swiss trading house Trafigura will supply seven of the eight cargoes with one cargo to be supplied by BP, Reuters reports.

CFE decided to trim the number of LNG cargoes due to uncertainty on the performance of pipeline connections with the U.S. gas market.

The utility is building two pipelines that will increase import capacity by 2.9 bcf of gas per day from the United States beginning in 2017.
