Qatar: RasGas Shares Its Vision at MEED Conference

RasGas Company Limited shared its ‘steps for success’ this week at the 2011 MEED Qatar Projects conference in Doha, when Nafez Bseiso, RasGas Venture Group Manager delivered a key address on the opening day to an audience of senior industry professionals.

Bseiso’s presentation, which was titled “The Power of the Vision”, outlined RasGas’ and Qatar’s success in the arena of liquefied natural gas (LNG). On behalf of RasGas he said: “RasGas’ success story was part of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, of which the development of the gas resources was an integral part.”

“By 2010, RasGas in partnership with its sister company Qatargas, played a significant role in realising the vision of His Highness the Emir, to reach 77 million tonnes of LNG and become the world’s largest and most reliable producer of LNG,” he continued.

Bseiso also stated that the Economic Development pillar that forms part of the Qatar National Vision 2030 places a tremendous emphasis on the benefit of natural gas, which provides a major source of clean energy for Qatar and for the world. With Qatar’s economy growing at a fast pace, energy will be one of the key requirements in the coming years for the country.

“Production from RasGas’ first facility started in 1999 and it is expected that by 2015 RasGas will have achieved 1800 percent growth in production capacity, which will be a remarkable achievement.” Bseiso stated “Because of RasGas’ enviable reputation, we were entrusted to develop the Barzan Gas Project, one of the largest gas infrastructure projects in the region. It will increase RasGas’ production capacity by a further 1.9 billion cubic feet per day which will take our total capacity to approximately 11 billion cubic feet by 2015,” he continued.

In his presentation, Bseiso underlined the importance of the integrated value chain, the commitment to the safety and environment, the technological and marketing innovation, the importance of the partnership and the excellence through people. All of which, he commented, were fundamental to the success story of RasGas and the realisation of His Highness’ The Emir’s vision.

To conclude the presentation, Bseiso said: “The successful development of the energy industry in Qatar started with a dream and a vision by HH the Emir, which now becomes a reality.”

The two-day conference addresses the next phase of the Qatar’s capital investment programme. More than 600 international and regional government officials, developers, investors, clients and contractors attended MEED’s Qatar Projects 2011 conference.
