WA Commerce Minister Praises Gorgon Boat Deal (Australia)

Project & Tenders

Western Australian Commerce Minister Simon O’Brien visited the Strategic Marine shipyard in Henderson yesterday for the hand-over of four new workboats to the Saipem Leighton Consortium for use on the Chevron operated Gorgon Project. The contract is valued at just under AU$1M.

Minister O’Brien said the project was “a great example of the benefits to be delivered to Western Australia from the Gorgon Project”.

Congratulations to Strategic Marine, the Saipem Leighton Consortium and Chevron Australia on the occasion of the first shipment of passenger work boats, a very tangible example of business being secured by local companies.

The Liberal-National Government will continue to work with Chevron to ensure that the State of Western Australia benefits from the Chevron Gorgon LNG Project, especially locally-owned businesses such as Strategic Marine,” Minister O’Brien said.

The Gorgon Project is operated by an Australian subsidiary of Chevron and is a joint venture of the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (approximately 47 percent), ExxonMobil (25 percent) and Shell (25 percent), Osaka Gas (1.25 percent), Tokyo Gas (one percent) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417 percent).
