Maritime players strike digital optimization partnership

Switzerland-based turbocharger producer Accelleron and South Korea’s HD Hyundai Marine Solution, a marine technology provider operating under HD Hyundai, have entered into an agreement aimed at ‘boosting’ the integration of ship management and optimization tools.

Under the terms of the contract the parties have signed, Accelleron and HD Hyundai Marine Solution are to explore closer integration as well as “further efficiencies” across digital tools, including the latter’s ship management solution, the Integrated Smart Ship Solution ISS 2.0, and artificial intelligence (AI)-based emissions monitoring system OceanWise.

The deal also reportedly includes the former company’s engine performance optimization system called LOREKA360° Tekomar XPERT Engine and the Turbo Insights monitoring tool. As disclosed, the agreement encompasses both newbuild and aftermarket projects.

Acelleron’s LOREKA360° system, said to have been engineered to assess engine performance and offer related advisory onboard, has already been delivered to around 100 vessels in Hyundai Marine Solutions’ user pool, the Swiss company’s representatives have shared.

However, under Hyundai’s licenses, including units that are in service and to be built, it is predicted that the number could rise to approximately five hundred ships in the near future.

As informed, under the scope of the two companies’ partnership, the application of Turbo Insights, a digital analytics solution that is claimed to help shipowners and operators verify performance during ship tests and sea trials, is anticipated to also support sustainability and cost reduction goals.

On the other hand, as noted, Hyundai Marine Solutions’ OceanWise is an AI-backed model that uses big data and artificial intelligence algorithms to suggest ‘optimal’ routes based on a vessel’s present location, with the aim of slashing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Per the South Korean marine technology player, the system’s practical application was verified through a previous arrangement with HD Hyundai Oilbank, starting in April 2024.

As Offshore Energy reported earlier, OceanWise was deployed ‘for the first time ever’ on board domestic commercial vessels in February this year.

Compatriot SK Shipping’s 318,000 dwt crude oil carrier C.Brave was one of the units that were fitted with the system, following a late January contract signed with SK Shipping and logistics firm Hyundai Glovis to supply OceanWise on a set of ships owned by the companies.
