MODEC places FPSO gig in DOF’s hands for ExxonMobil’s oil project offshore Guyana

Norwegian vessel owner DOF Group has secured a new assignment with Japan’s MODEC for a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, which will work at an oil project operated by ExxonMobil Guyana, a subsidiary of the U.S.-headquartered ExxonMobil, off the coast of Guyana.

DOF described its latest job with MODEC as a large turn-key contract award for the provision of mooring pre-lay for the FPSO Hammerhead project, which will be deployed at ExxonMobil’s $6.8 billion Hammerhead deepwater oil development in Guyana’s Stabroek block.

The Norwegian player’s North America subsea team will provide in-house project management, engineering, procurement, logistics base, transportation, and installation, utilizing its Skandi Implementer vessel for pile installation and Skandi Skansen for the mooring lines.

The offshore execution is scheduled for Q2/Q3 of 2027. Aside from MODEC, ExxonMobil hired TechnipFMC and Saipem to lend a helping hand in bringing its seventh oil project in Guyanese waters to life.

The Hammerhead project will add between 120,000 and 180,000 barrels per day (bpd), boosting the country’s overall production capacity to nearly 1.5 million bpd once it comes online in 2029.

The Stabroek block partners are ExxonMobil (operator with 45% interest), Hess (now part of Chevron, 30%), and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana (25%).

The latest job in Guyana adds to the list of assignments DOF recently won, including a four-year contract with Petrobras for a remotely operated vehicle support vessel (RSV).
