Spain: LA NAVAL Shipyard to Finish Hull No. 340 Fall Pipe and Mining Vessel

LA NAVAL Shipyard is currently involved in the design and production of the construction No. 340, a Fall Pipe and mining vessel, with high performances and unique in the market. As in other projects, the Shipyard is developing the entire project with the CAD/CAM shipbuilding system FORAN.

The B340 vessel is intended to locate medium size stones on the seabed through a guided pipe with a maximum depth of 1,700 meters. These stones, which in total may weigh up to a maximum of 32,000 tons, are transported on the ship in two large hoppers located on deck. The B340 aims to cover submarine cable or pipe lines, or fixing marine exploitation structures associated with gas and/or oil. LA NAVAL Shipyard delivered in 2010 a similar ship, the B333 “Simon Stevin”, and has improved it making important changes to improve their final performance in the new B340.

With a length overall of 191,50 m, a breadth of 40 m, and a design draught of 7,50 m, the new Fall-Pipe vessel has a 32,500 t of capacity and it is equipped with five diesel generators. The innovative vessel has two stones storage units on main deck, two scavator cranes, a fall pipe module and two conveyor belts as well as a helicopter deck. The Fall Pipe is equipped with four azimuthing propulsion propellers, two bow thrusters and two retractable azimuthing thrusters.
