China: Vessel MV Hanjin Praha Leaves CIC Changxing Shipyard on Time

M.V. Hanjin Praha, a container vessel owned by a German company, is 282.1m in LOA and moulded with 32.24m. The shipowner is the regular customer of CIC-Shipyards, who has awarded the repair projects of over 10 vessels to the shipyards this year. This time the main repair scope of the subject vessel included regular docking, removing & refitting 1200 pcs. of hatch cover lubripads and steel works in tanks and hatch covers.

Once she arrived at CIC Changxing Shipyard, the yard arranged the workforce to deliver 44 pcs. hatch covers ashore, which ensured the vessel to enter “CS Jiuhuangshan” floating dock in the night of her arrival. The shipowner was quite satisfied with the performance of hull coating, since the shipyard knew the shipowner was quite strict with the quality of coating and requested the working staff to pay close attention to the quality and took care of on-site supervision.

When the workers replaced the tailshaft seal, they found the liner had been heavily worn and needed to be renewed. The shipyard immediately adjusted its repair schedule, and assisted the owner to communicate with the supplier to confirm the arrival date of the related spare.

In consideration of the long-term cooperation between two parties, the shipyard reserved an earlier docking slot for the captioned vessel. Since the ship’s structure was so much special that it was very hard to remove the propeller. Hence, before the vessel’s second docking, the shipyard had discussed with the owner several times. Besides, the yard also arranged the workforce to work overnight in order to ensure the regular docking project to be finished on time.

Before the vessel departure from the shipyard, it was found the rudder out of order. The yard immediately arranged the technicians to inspect onboard, helped the ship’s superintendent to contact the service supplier and arranged tugboats and etc. Finally, it was found that the problem was caused by the spare supplied by the service supplier. The quick response won the owner’s appreciation and recognition.

The owner was quite satisfied with the high efficiency and good arrangement of CIC Changxing Shipyard. The professional ethics & ability, especially the performance of the machinery supervisor, impressed the shipowner favorably.
