Acadian Advises Against Atlantic City Wind Farm (USA)

Acadian Consulting Group, hired by state officials to review an Atlantic City offshore wind farm proposal, is advising state regulators to say no to the wind farm, reports Press of Atlantic City.

In February 2011, Fishermen’s Energy applied to the state Board of Public Utilities for the Offshore Renewable Energy Certificate. The company plans to build 25MW wind farm offshore Atlantic City capable of powering approximately 10,000 homes. The wind farm would be located 2.8 miles off the coast.

The report by David E. Dismukes states that the wind farm will raise costs to USD 11,237/KWh, and that the state could lose USD 946.1 million in economic activity with 29,661 jobs in the next 20 years.

As a response to this report, the director of the state Division of Rate Counsel said she would recommend to the Board of Public Utilities to veto this project.

Fishermen’s Energy plans to commence the construction later this year.
