ACE Winches Among "Ones to Recognise" (UK)

Turriff-based ACE Winches, the Deck Machinery Specialists, has been named the leading Scottish company to recognise by international accountancy firm PwC and FastTrack as published in the Sunday Times on April 14, 2013.

Now in its eighth year, the Profit Track 100 Ones to Recognise award seeks to identify the best companies from eight regions around the UK that have produced – and are predicted to produce – good profit growth.

ACE Winches has invested over £30 million in expanding its production and winch hire facilities at its Towie Barclay Works base in rural Aberdeenshire. The company also has a Norwegian division, ACE Winches Norge AS, based at Dusavik, near Stavanger. ACE Winches, which was founded by CEO Alfie Cheyne, operates on a global basis with around 75 percent of its profits coming from international exports. Staff numbers have increased from 200 in 2011 to almost 300 today as the company has expanded to meet growing demand for its range of products and services.

Commenting on the company’s inclusion as a regional winner in the Ones to Recognise category, Alfie Cheyne said, “We are delighted with our win as it recognises the sustained and continuous growth of the ACE Winches organisation, not only in a tough economic climate, but also in an area with many successful companies. It is representative of the achievements of Aberdeen and we are proud that the majority of our workforce – those people who contribute to the development of this company – live in and enjoy the benefits of Scotland’s North-east.”

ACE Winches has also secured a place as a finalist in two other leading award schemes – The Scottish Business Awards in the CEO of the Year category, and in the prestigious cHeRries Awards for the Exemplary Employer of Choice Award. This award will be presented to an organisation which clearly demonstrates that ‘people’ are genuinely an essential part of their business strategy. Judges will be looking for evidence of an organisation which, in the past 12 months has placed commitment to their staff at the heart of their organisation and as such, have seen a wide ranging, measurable effect on the success of the organisation.

Both these award ceremonies will be held in June 2013.
