ADNOC casts the die for gas project as FID seals path to development

United Arab Emirates-headquartered energy heavyweight Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has put the pen to paper for its ambition to boost its natural gas arsenal in the UAE by propelling a gas project off the coast of Abu Dhabi into execution phase with a final investment decision (FID).

While announcing the FID for the SARB Deep Gas development within the Ghasha Concession offshore Abu Dhabi, ADNOC explains that the development will deliver 200 million standard cubic feet per day (scfd) of gas before the end of the decade, enough energy to power more than 300,000 homes daily.

This project, described as technically advanced development, which will embed advanced technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), will be operated remotely from Arzanah Island, leveraging existing infrastructure to maximize efficiency and enhance safety.

Located 120 kilometers offshore from Abu Dhabi, the gas project comprises a new offshore platform with four gas production wells, which connect to Das Island, where gas will be tied into ADNOC Gas facilities for upstream treatment, maximizing the integration with other ADNOC projects.

Musabbeh Al Kaabi, ADNOC Upstream CEO, commented: “This strategic project within the Ghasha Concession reinforces the progress we are making to fully unlock Abu Dhabi’s world-class gas resources, supporting UAE gas self-sufficiency and strengthening the nation’s role as a reliable exporter to international markets.

“The development will leverage advanced technologies and AI and maximizes synergies across ADNOC’s offshore infrastructure, unlocking efficiencies and value.”

This FID comes after ADNOC, together with Eni and PTTEP, obtained a structured financing transaction of up to $11 billion (AED 40.4 billion) for the Hail and Ghasha sour gas development.
