Adriatic LNG terminal sendout jumps

Adriatic LNG terminal off the Italian Veneto coastline recorded a 12 percent increase in regasified LNG volumes by the end of July.

The terminal regasified 3.9 billion cubic meters of LNG during the first seven months, compared to the 3.4 Bcm regasified during the same period in 2016.

In the second quarter of 2017, the terminal sendout reached 1.7 Bcm of gas, showing a 15 percent increase compared from the 1.5 Bcm for the same month in 2016.

During the month of July alone, the terminal delivered 651 million cubic meters of gas into the national grid, recording the highest volume since May 2011, according to the operator’s statement.

Compared to July 2016, when the terminal delivered 513 Mcm to the national gas grid, this is a 27 percent increase.

It is the second time in the history of Adriatic LNG that the terminal has exceeded the 650 Mcm sendout target.

The terminal’s utilization rate in July reached 95 percent, bringing the year-to-date value up to 83 percent, a significantly higher rate compared to the average of other European terminals.

National gas demand was driven mainly by the industrial sector, which approached pre-crisis values and contributed to the increase in July consumption by 9.2 percent, compared to the same period in 2016, according to Snam Rete Gas.

Since start-up in 2009, over 541 LNG carriers have arrived at the Adriatic LNG terminal mainly from Qatar and over 45 Bcm of gas have been redelivered into the national grid.

The terminal that mainly imports LNG from Qatar recently received its first LNG cargo from Nigeria.
