AGR Training Director Talks on Reservoir Modelling

The workshop, convened by the SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) and co-supported by AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists), SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers), EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers) and the SPWLA (Society of Petrophysicists & Well Log Analysts) is being held in San Diego, California this week (3-8 August, 2014).

The sell-out event is focussed on reservoir modelling and simulation and forms part of an attempt to bring together different disciplines so issues of cross-discipline interest and cooperation (integration) can be discussed. This is why so many societies are involved.

In attendance are large groups of geophysicists, geologists and reservoir engineers, sitting alongside each other, almost all from oil companies including Exxon Mobil, Shell, Maersk, Conoco, and Chevron. AGR is one of only two service companies invited to address the forum this week.

Mark Bentley, Director of AGR’s TRACS Training was asked to give a key note talk fronting the geological reservoir modelling afternoon session on the Tuesday. Mark commented:

“It is nice to be asked to do a key note, which is why I enthusiastically joined in for this. The invite came via our friends at Maersk, during a drive up to the outcrops at Tabernas, Spain on a TRACS Training Open Air event last year. My talk was titled: ‘Reservoir Model Design’, which is based on one of our courses and the workshop held during the annual EAGE conference in Amsterdam this June.”

Mark’s presentation was prepared in cooperation with Philip Ringrose, the President of EAGE. Philip and Mark are co-authoring a practitioners’ handbook “Reservoir Model Design” which will be published this October.
