UK: Two Hundredth Cargo Berths at Grain LNG Terminal

The Al Sahla berthed on Sunday 9th January at National Grid’s LNG importation terminal at the Isle of Grain in Kent. This is Grain’s two hundredth cargo.

This brings the amount of energy delivered into the UK gas market through the terminal to almost 18 billion cubic metres, which is sufficient to supply the entire UK market for almost 50 days.

“Since the facility was converted into an importation terminal, we have seen a steady rise in the number of vessels unloading” commented Simon Fairman, Importation Terminal Manager, “and during the recent cold weather in the UK we have safely and reliably worked with our customers to support the UK gas markets, with five vessels arriving already in 2011.”

Grain LNG is the UK’s first modern LNG facility and can hold almost 1 million cubic metres of liquefied natural gas in store. The terminal recently commissioned an additional unloading  jetty and storage tank, to cater for additional demand from its customers.
