Anadarko awards Mozambique training deal to Matrix

Incident investigation specialist Matrix Risk Control has secured a contract to deliver training in Mozambique for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation workers.

Representatives from the Aberdeen-based company will develop and deliver incident investigation training for up to 90 staff members of Anadarko over the remaining quarter of 2017.

Mhorvan Sherret, commercial director of Matrix, said: “We are looking forward to working closely with Anadarko’s teams over the next three months to strengthen the company’s incident investigation capabilities.”

Anadarko is the operator behind Mozambique LNG, a project to advance the country’s first large-scale onshore LNG Park on the Afungi peninsula in Cabo Delgado province of northern Mozambique.

Mark McKenna, Anadarko HSE director for Global LNG said: “Exciting times lie ahead for Anadarko in Mozambique, however the safety and wellbeing of our personnel remains a priority at both a local and a global level.

“By working in partnership with Matrix, we hope to create a positive culture and process surrounding all aspects of incident reporting, recording, and investigation.”

Anadarko made its first discovery in the Offshore Area 1 of the deepwater Rovuma Basin offshore Mozambique back in 2010. The company is developing Mozambique’s first onshore LNG plant consisting of two initial LNG trains with a total capacity of 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to support the Golfinho/Atum field located entirely within Offshore Area 1.

In July this year, Anadarko finalized two agreements with the Government of Mozambique which will allow the company to design, build and operate the marine facilities for its LNG project in the country.
