ANGA backs LNG provisions

Frank J. Macchiarola, executive VP for government affairs at ANGA, commented on the inclusion in the manager’s amendment to the North American Energy & Infrastructure Act (H.R. 8), of language to expedite approval of permits to build LNG terminals.

Macchiarola welcomed the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s inclusion of language in the manager’s amendment to its comprehensive energy bill that would provide greater certainty to the Energy Department’s processing of permits for LNG export terminals. This policy has established and broad bipartisan support in both the House and Senate.

“It is our view that the FERC permitting process is thorough and requires significant investments of time and money. The Energy Department is in a position to make a prompt determination regarding an LNG export application once the FERC review is complete; this legislation provides needed clarity around the timeline for these determinations,” the statement reads.

Macchiarola pointed out the bill’s provisions supporting workforce development and the streamlining of pipeline approvals, and stressed ANGA’s readiness to work with members in both parties as the legislation moves forward.
