APL Adds More Coverage to West Cost 5 Service

Singapore-based container shipping company APL plans to upgrade its West Coast 5 (WC5) service by adding port calls of Corinto, Acajutla and Puerto Quetzal in Central America, effective September 14, 2016.

The enhanced service will call the ports of Los Angeles, Lazaro Cardenas, Corinto, Acajutla and Puerto Quetzal every week.

With the new ports of call, APL said it will enhance direct connectivity between the Port of Los Angeles and the Latin American markets.

“As the industries of Central America continue to be key exporters of agricultural products and commodities; as well as manufactured products such as clothes and textiles to the US, APL’s enhanced WC5 service will enable a more direct access between the two regions,” according to the company.

The upgraded WC5 service will offer shorter transit times, compared to trans-shipment options that involve land transportation via Mexico, APL said.
