Apply Leirvik to deliver parts for new Valhall platform

Living quarters and helideck supplier Apply Leirvik has been awarded a contract for the delivery of an emergency shelter and helicopter deck on the new Valhall Flank West platform in Norway.

Valhall is a giant oilfield in the southern Norwegian North Sea operated by Aker BP. The contract was awarded to Apply Leirvik by the Wellhead Platform Alliance, which includes Aker BP, Aker Solutions, Kværner and ABB, on Tuesday.

Valhall Flank West will be developed through a normally unmanned wellhead platform installation with 12 well slots, tied back to Valhall field center. The submission of the Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) is expected by the end of this year, according to Aker BP.

The emergency shelter is a two-floor module with a total area of 154 m2, which includes change rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, meeting rooms, offices and beds. The Valhall Flank West platform is normally unmanned, but will provide emergency shelter for up to 15 persons, if needed. The helicopter deck is a standard safe deck, in accordance to Norwegian requirements.

Apply said that both the emergency shelter and the helicopter deck would be built in aluminium by Apply Leirvik at Stord. The delivery dates are set to be end of August 2018 and end of October 2018. The shelter and the helicopter deck will be transported to Kværner Verdal for assembly on the top-side.

Apply Leirvik CEO, Helge Gjøsæter, said: “The contract will employ approximately 30 FTE’s and fits very well into our two ongoing projects, Johan Sverdrup and Peregrino II. This is an important contract related to our commitment towards small and medium modules, and the award shows that our focus on continuous development of the supplier chain makes us competitive in a challenging market.”

Earlier this year, Aker BP entered into a framework agreement with Heerema Marine Contractors for transport and installation of facilities offshore, including call-off for transportation and installation on Valhall West Flank.
