As informed, the project is intended to extend the terminal’s surface and to rearrange it towards increasing its capacity from the current 900,000 to 1.5 million TEUs annually.

Likewise, freight movement and access to harbor area will be improved by building a fly-over and by improving and refurbishing the access routes, according to ASC.

Scheduled to be completed in December 2021, the project is valued at EUR 260 million (CAD 400 million).

The aim of the project is to tackle road congestion and improve efficiency by eliminating port traffic from adjacent roads.

The facility is one of the Port of Vancouver’s four container terminals, representing one-fifth of its total freight movement. It is operated by Dubai-based port operator DP World.
