Australia: Queensland releases gas industry discussion paper

The ministry of natural resources and mines of Queensland, Australia, released the state’s first industry-wide gas discussion paper.

The paper named Queensland gas supply and demand action plan Discussion paper, released by Anthony Lynham, minister for state development and minister for natural resources and mines, holds 29 reform ideas up for discussion.

“The gas sector is critical to the Queensland economy for the jobs, revenue, regional growth and significant economic benefits it delivers,” Lynham said.

He adds that the state’s growing liquefied natural gas industry exports will increasingly deliver royalties to fund budget initiatives.

Lynham said that although there is strong demand and solid foundations for reliable supply for the following 30 years, there are challenges, that Queensland looks to overcome with the action plan.

The recommendations in the action plan focus on supply and the gas sector’s “social license”, the community’s general acceptance of the resources sector and its activities.

Lynham noted that comment submissions on the issues outlined in the discussion paper can be submitted by December 19, 2016
