Australia: Semi-Displacement Hybrid Superyacht GT-40H from Imaginocean Yacht Design

The GT-40 is a semi-displacement superyacht unlike any other. As with the 48 Metre Tango 2, Imaginocean Yacht Design has pursued the “longer, lower, lighter” ethos with the GT-40, but has taken it to a new level with this latest project….. and has added “green” to the mix as well: The “H” is for hybrid, as this is a vessel that can run at up to twenty knots courtesy of her main engines, travel at up to 8 knots for shorter periods under electric power alone, or for extended periods in diesel-electric mode, with just the gensets running.

Synthetic decks, LED lighting, Smart Glass glazing to cut down on the air conditioning load: every aspect of the design was considered from a low impact and efficiency point of view.

The styling is a beguiling mix of retro and up-to-the-minute… with features like the reverse bow and its titanium cutwater, the forward cockpit, complete with its own helm station and the gull-wing doors that give access to the side decks – this is a design that proves that superyachts can still be fun! The design was partially inspired by the styling & efficiency of the original Midnight Lace series, designed by the late Tom Fexas in the early 80’s, partly by the sensible proportions of modern sailing vessels, and partly by the long-held desire to create a compact, stylish superyacht that represents the latest in efficiency and real-world technology.

The layout see the full-beam Master Suite located aft, with direct access to the aft cockpit. Forward of this, there are four en-suite guest cabins. All feature large windows and extensive storage, ensuring that guests will enjoy a comfortable stay. This is intended to be a relaxed and informal yacht, so the main helm shares the split level deck saloon with comfortable lounge and dining areas.

Down and forward, the atmosphere is ‘cosier’, with further lounge, dining and theatre facilities. The Deck Saloon features easy access aft to the Bridge-Deck, which has yet another helm station and extensive outdoor entertaining areas. An electric bimini, that is completely hidden when stowed, provides shade when required. Or, for those who prefer to soak up the sun, the aft cockpit sun-lounge can be arranged to face forward, or looking aft over the water. Further forward, there is the aforementioned forward cockpit, as well as a storage bay for the seven metre RIB tender, that doubles as a huge foredeck spa / pool.
