Baleària Buys Visemar One

Spanish ferry company Baleària has decided to buy Visemar One, a 2010-built RoRo/passenger ship which has been part of the company’s fleet for seven years.

Baleària has invested around EUR 55 million (USD 62.7 million) into the purchase of the 8,702 dwt vessel.

The recent acquisition brings the number of ships owned by Baleària to 26.

Visemar One was launched by the company on the Barcelona-Palma route in 2011 and currently operates between València and Palma. With a length of 186.4 meters and a width of 25.6 meters, the ship is able to accommodate 600 passengers and carry 74 vehicles.

Baleària currently operates a total of 30 vessels, 26 of which are owned. The shipping company has also two LNG-powered ferries on order at Cantiere Navale Visentini in Italy and is studying two LNG projects.

Additionally, the company plans to retrofit five of its ferries to run on LNG in an effort to cut pollution from ships. The ferries in question, Nápoles, Abel Matutes, Sicilia, Bahama Mama and Martín i Soler, are scheduled to undergo the upgrades over the next two years.
