The company, which has been operational for three years already has 148-acre training centre which boasts a 10.5 acre open water lake. Beyond Limits Training runs regular courses on security, firefighting, medical and maritime training.

John Davies, managing director explained, “We invest in very little marketing; our success can be attributed to word of mouth referrals and our online presence. Attendees come from all over the world and so far 100% said they would recommend the courses to a friend. Quality is extremely important to us, all of our courses are MCA accredited and are taught by people with direct experience in the field. 70% of the courses are practical and 30% theory.”

Crew training is extremely important in the superyacht industry and ensures the safety of crews, guests and the vessel. From January 2014 the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) introduced a mandatory security awareness course for all personnel employed or engaged on board a vessel; this includes the mobile hairdresser and entertainment crews.

Although it was announced that Port State Control (PSC) would not take action against non-compliance until June 2015, there have been stories of vessels being fined and held in port.

Beyond Limits Training gets 70% of its business through the superyacht industry. John explained, “We have recently added Proficiency in Security Awareness to our STCW95 Basic Safety Training Package at no extra cost. Beyond Limits Training also revealed a recent partnership with Silver Swan Recruitment to help attendees of their courses find the right jobs.”
