Bibby Maritime attending Canada LNG Export conference

Bibby Maritime, global providers of workforce accommodation, will be attending Canada LNG Export 2014, a conference and exhibition focused on the growing LNG markets in Canada.

The three-day conference and focus day takes place in Calgary on September 16-18th and covers topics including ‘Gaining Access to a Skilled Workforce to Meet the Growing Demand in Western Canada’, ‘LNG Project Delivery Strategy: Conception, Execution, Delivery and Operation’ and examines LNG export project case studies.

Sixteen LNG projects are proposed for the British Columbian coast, and it is anticipated that there could be as many as 60,000 workers needed for the construction phases over the next few years. Bibby Maritime have already received interest from a number of parties who have recognised that there is a huge requirement for worker accommodation.

With many local towns on the BC coast unable to offer the infrastructure and hotel network to support the influx of thousands of workers, floating accommodation will offer a swift solution to house several hundred workers quickly, and will also provide the high quality interiors and facilities needed for contractors to attract and retain a quality workforce.

Given that many of the proposed LNG project sites are in or surrounded by environmentally sensitive locations, floating accommodation can help to minimise site preparation including land clearance, and after charter they can float away with little or no evidence of it ever being there, requiring minimal site remediation.

A recent environmental study also determined that floating accommodation can be as much as 27% more environmentally friendly than land-based accommodation villages and modular accommodation.

“We have received a lot of interest from British Columbia over the past few months, and are really looking forward to hearing about future plans for projects taking place across the region,” explained Carl McLaughlin, Commercial Manager at Bibby Maritime. “We’re meeting with a number of contacts while we’re in Canada and will be happy to talk to anyone interested in hearing more about how floating accommodation might be able to help their project” he said.
