BigLift orders third Happy S-type vessel

Dutch shipping company BigLift Shipping has placed an order for the third Happy S-type vessel to be built by China’s Ouhua Shipbuilding.

‘Happy Sun’, as the new build vessel will be named, will be identical to BigLift’s ‘Happy Star’ vessel and is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2018.

Happy Sun will be 156 m long and have a 29 m deck with 18,374 m ton deadweight. The vessel will feature two 900 mt Huisman Heavy Lift Mast Cranes with high crane pedestals and lengthened jib.

The vessel’s length and the forward position of its superstructure will offer a single, large cargo hold and a wide, open deck area. It will be fitted with pontoon type hatch covers and a poop deck which will make the vessel’s full deck area available for cargo stowage.

According to BigLift Shipping, Happy Sun’s tween deck will be adjustable in height and the vessel will be allowed to sail with open weather deck hatches at a draught of up to 7.5 meters. Furthermore, it will have Finnish/Swedish 1A Ice Class notation and the service speed will be 15 kn.

With Happy Sun, BigLift’s fleet will comprise of 16 heavy lift vessels with lifting capacities up to 1,800 mt, the company said.
