Boat Carrying 600 Migrants Sinks Off Libya

A boat carrying 600 migrants sank off the coast of Libya.

In a search and rescue operation, coordinated by Italian Coast Guard, around 400 people were rescued.

The search teams recovered 25 bodies, and are still searching for missing people.

According to media reports, the incident happened after a fishing boat ran into bad weather around 25 km offshore Libya.

Survivors indicated that the boat was carrying between 400 and 600 people.

Earlier in the year a boat carrying more than 700 people on board sank in the Mediterranean in the incident that is considered to be the largest loss of life from any incident involving refugees and migrants.
