Bourbon Partners Up with Bureau Veritas on Automation

French offshore services company Bourbon has inked a partnership deal with Bureau Veritas on development and deployment of automation technology.

The company said that the endeavor would see the development of real-time monitoring fleet applications and digital technologies while putting a major focus on mitigating cyber risks.

The partnership plans to deliver advanced automation of dynamic positioning systems in order to improve DP operational safety through real-time advisory tools for bridge operators and remote support for onshore teams.

In addition, Bourbon believes the technology would result in a reduction of manning requirements and cutting of fuel and maintenance costs.

In partnership with Kongsberg Maritime, Bourbon has implemented a pilot project on the Bourbon Explorer 508 operating in Trinidad waters.

As informed, it collects data from the DP system and drives the development of novel decision-making and verification applications for both offshore crew and onshore support teams.

In order to curb potential cyber security threats, Bureau Veritas and APSYS, an Airbus company specialized in Product Security, are working on identifying and mitigating risks linked to data collection and communication between BOURBON’s vessels and onshore infrastructure. Based on this risk assessment, Bureau Veritas is able to issue cyber security certification on products and class notations for ships meeting global industry security standards.

We have decided to innovate with Bureau Veritas in the way we operate vessels in order to bring a response to this new cycle focused on operational excellence at optimum cost. Streamlining work organization onboard vessels, this project will have a significant positive impact on our operations,”  Gaël Bodénès, CEO of BOURBON Corporation, said.
