BW Confirms VLCC Order at SHI

BW Group is behind the order for four crude carriers at South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) that was revealed yesterday, the company’s spokesperson confirmed to World Maritime News.

“BW Group has contracted 4 VLCCs at Samsung Heavy Industries with various options attached, including other ship types,” the statement reads.

Furthermore, BW Group said that “DHT has been kept abreast of the talks along the way” so as to cooperate on the vessels.

Namely, BW plans to grant DHT the opportunity to either buy or manage the vessels.

“The intention is to enter into discussions to grant DHT an option to acquire the vessels, or manage the vessels commercially/technically,” BW Group’s spokesperson added.

Samsung Heavy Industries informed that the contract has a value of KRW 378.4 billion (USD 334.8 million), with each of the ships priced at around KRW 94.6 billion.

The shipbuilder is expected to deliver the vessels by July 2019.
