BW LPG Carrier Collides with Oil Tanker off Chennai

Indian authorities have launched an investigation into a collision between the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier BW Maple, owned by Singapore-based BW LPG, and the oil tanker Dawn Kanchipuram.

At the time of the incident, which occurred near Ennore’s Kamarajar Port at around 4 am local time, the 2007-built LPG tanker was sailing outbound while the 44,885 dwt Dawn Kanchipuram was the inbound vessel.

Kamarajar Port authorities informed that there were no reports of injuries following the incident on January 28, and there were no signs of pollution.

Both vessels are afloat and, according to AIS data provided by MarineTraffic, they are currently at anchor off Chennai.

The extent of the damage caused to the ships will be assessed by the relevant authorities, Kamarajar Port said in a statement.

Other ship traffic in the area was reportedly not affected by the collision.
