Call for nominations, labeled as NL20-CFN01 – Eastern Newfoundland, will assist the C-NLOPB in selecting a sector for introduction into the scheduled land tenure system.

The C-NLOPB said on Thursday that the sector identification regarding the call for nominations will be done before April 2020. The sector identification announcement will be made in June 2018.

According to the offshore regulator, the call for nominations will open on August 2021 and will close in November 2021. The call for bids, pending Board approval and ratification by the federal and provincial governments, will open in March or April 2022 and close in November 2022.

Nomination submissions or comments regarding this current call for nominations and its areas of interest are due by March 11, 2020.

The Eastern Newfoundland Region was included in the Eastern Newfoundland Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). The SEA examines the environmental effects that may be associated with a plan, program or policy proposal and allows for the incorporation of environmental considerations at the earliest stages of program planning.

In addition to the SEA, a Regional Assessment of Offshore Exploratory Drilling East of Newfoundland and Labrador is now underway, which has a number of stakeholder engagement opportunities.

It is worth noting that the Eastern Newfoundland land tenure region includes a number of important areas for fish harvesters who fish crab and other species.
