Canada: Janice Odegaard Appointed Suncor Energy Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Suncor Energy announced the appointment of Janice Odegaard to the position of senior vice president and general counsel. In this role, Odegaard will be responsible for all legal and regulatory matters across the company and will work closely with Suncor’s Board of Directors on matters of corporate governance.

Odegaard joined Suncor in 1995 and served most recently as vice president, Corporate Legal and corporate secretary. She has held a number of senior positions within the company, including vice president, Project Services in the Major Projects group, which handles engineering, procurement and construction for Suncor’s growth initiatives. Odegaard serves on the Board of the Legal Education Society of Alberta. She is past president of the Canadian Bar Association’s securities section and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre.

In this role, Odegaard joins Suncor’s Executive Leadership Team, replacing Terry Hopwood, QC, who is retiring after 22 years with the company.
