Canada’s TSB Probing Alleged Bulker Grounding in Squamish

Canada has sent its Transportation Safety Board (TSB) team to investigate a possible grounding of a 49,000 dwt bulk carrier Kai Xuan at the Squamish terminal in British Columbia.

The Marshall Islands-registered carrier reportedly came in contact with the bottom while approaching the terminal in the early hours of December 18.

The 2012-built Kai Xuan, managed by Norwegian shipping company Grieg Star, was travelling from Nanaimo, Canada.

Grieg Star said that a diver inspection had been carried out on the ship, revealing no concrete grounding evidence.

There are no reports of injuries or pollution after the incident.
