Cargo Ship Sinks Offshore Indonesia

A cargo ship, Kumala Endah (or Indah), has sunk after running aground in Belawan waters in Indonesia on Tuesday night.

According to media reports, five of the fourteen crew members were rescued.

Supposedly, the ship, which was carrying 700 tons of iron, struck an underwater wreck which caused it to sink, leaving nine people missing.

In a search and rescue efforts the team found two bodies of the missing crew, and the search is still ongoing for the remaining seven people.

As local news websites report, the SAR team is deploying underwater robots to help the search, and the team of divers is also conducting the search at the site.

It is believed that the remaining missing crew is still trapped inside the vessel.

Furthermore, several websites reported that the vessel’s name cannot be found in databases, which may be caused by misspelled name or the re-naming of the vessel.

Other vessels bearing the Kumala name are owned by Lautan Kumala of Indonesia.
