Cheoy Lee Shipyards’ New Tug Ready for Work (China)

Following a batch of two vessels ordered by an India based client, GPC BARÚ, built under Cheoy Lee yard number 4982, is the first in the latest series of three RAmparts 3200CL tugs, this time for GPC Tugs S.A.S., a member of the Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena (SPRC) Group in Columbia.

The vessel will operate in the port of Cartagena, Columbia’s second largest port. The vessels are built to Lloyd’s class, with the notation LR +100A1 Tug, +LMC, +UMS, *IWS Unrestricted Service.

The RAmparts 3200CL has a range of engine options, and these latest deliveries are fitted with twin Caterpillar 3516C engines, each developing 2,682hp. These diesels drive a pair of azimuthing Schottel SRP1515FP fixed pitch rudder propellers. The tugs offer excellent maneuverability, a top speed of 13.8 knots and bollard pull of 71 tonnes.

Electrical power is from two 3-phase 115kW Perkins generators. The tug accommodates 10 crew members on the forward lower deck. The master and chief engineer each have their own cabin on the main deck level.

Hydraulically driven deck gear includes a MacGregor towing winch/windlass at the bow and another MacGregor towing winch at the stern.

An FFS fire pump is driven off one main engine, and supplies two FFS fire monitors.

GPC BARÚ is fitted with an extensive navigation package, primarily from Furuno, including radar, autopilot, echo sounder, GPS, Inmarsat-C, SSB, VHF, Navtex, AIS, BNWAS, and satellite compass.

Cheoy Lee yard number 4982 left Hong Kong in October 2012, on a voyage through the China Sea and across the Pacific, under the command of the delivery crew from Redwise.
