Project & Tenders

Chevron Australia Pty Ltd is pleased to announce the signing of a Heads of Agreement with the Thalanyji people of Onslow, for land required to develop the Wheatstone liquefied natural gas and domestic gas project.

The Wheatstone plant site is located at the State Government’s North Ashburton Strategic Industrial Area, approximately 12 kilometres south of Onslow.

This Native Title agreement will provide the Thalanyji people significant benefits in terms of education, training, employment, business development and financial support.

Wheatstone Project General Manager Geoff Strong said this is an important milestone in the development of the Wheatstone Project.

“We see this agreement with the Thalanyji people as a key building block in forging a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship.

Strong added, “The agreement is structured to provide long-term, sustainable benefits.”

The land area covered under the agreement includes approximately 500 hectares for the Wheatstone plant site and port facility, plus additional land for the access corridor, accommodation camp, domestic gas pipeline corridor and other project-related requirements.

The terms of the agreement allow for up to five LNG trains to be constructed on the Wheatstone plant site with capacity totalling 25 million tonnes per year and a domestic gas plant.

The agreement will allow the State Government to progress the granting of the appropriate leases and easements for the construction and operation of the Wheatstone LNG facility under Section 29 of the Native Title Act.
