China - Admiralty Delivers Digital Integration at Marintec 2011

Admiralty announced the availability of its Digital Integration Workshops at Marintec 2011.

The workshops are designed to help shipping managers effectively plan for the integration of digital technology into bridge operations to meet the requirements of the ECDIS Mandate.

Each Workshop session provides attendees with a transparent, step-by-step process to support the planning and delivery of compliance with the ECDIS Mandate. The session builds a comprehensive checklist of activity for each stage of compliance; from the initial fleet assessment and impact on Flag State requirements and Port State inspections; through installation and crew training, to recommendations on managing the switch from paper to digital charts on the bridge.

The Digital Integration Workshops take place on the Admiralty stand 5J31 in Hall W5 daily.

The Workshops have been developed in conjunction with Captain Paul Hailwood, a renowned expert on ECDIS and integrated bridge operations. Captain Hailwood is an accredited ECDIS instructor and has developed and delivered courses on Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems at a number of training establishments, as well as managing the ‘real world’ introduction of ECDIS across a number of shipping fleets.

Captain Hailwood says: “The adoption of ECDIS is delivering significant benefits to fleets around the world, making voyages safer and more efficient. The Admiralty Workshops offer insight based on feedback from shipping managers and mariners who have successfully integrated digital navigation into their operations. The message is clear – achieving ECDIS Mandate compliance requires careful planning and coordination, from the initial risk assessment to the introduction and implementation of new procedures. These Workshops will guide attendees through the key issues and clearly demonstrate how to address them.”

The Workshops will be delivered by trainer Joe Collins, a Master Mariner with almost 40 years’ experience in the marine industry, including 15 years at sea, 10 years in maritime education and training and 11 years with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

Ian Moncrieff, Chief Executive, UKHO, says: “Admiralty is delighted to be bringing the Digital Integration Workshops to Marintec. China is one of the largest and fastest growing shipping centres and our Asian partners are seeing significant demand for information and support around the ECDIS Mandate. The Workshops, as well as our office in Singapore, are helping to provide that support.”

In addition the Workshops, the Admiralty team of experts will be on the stand to offer advice and guidance on navigation strategy, and offer attendees live demonstrations of the latest Admiralty products and services, including Admiralty Vector Chart Service, Admiralty Information Overlay and Admiralty e-Navigator.
