Afai Completes Trials of 36m Ferry

Aluminium alloy fast ferry, bearing the Hull No. ASA037, of 3609 project, co-built by Afai Southern Shipyard and Damen Holland, successfully completed sea trials on March 20.

The trials comprised various tests which determined the ship’s endurance, speed, crash stop distance, turning circle etc. The construction work of Afai was approved by Damen Holland and BV Classification Society.

This aluminum catamaran of 3609 project is propelled by twin main engines and twin propellers. With the overall length of 36.28m, beam of 9.7m, design speed of 27 knots, the vessel has the capacity to carry 195 people.

The shipbuilding contract for the construction of the ferry was signed on February 18th 2012. Mr. Qiu Shuquan, Director/Vice General Manager of Afai Southern, and Mr. Richard, Contracting Manager of Damen Group, signed the contract for one 36m aluminum alloy ferry in Guangzhou.
