China: CIC Changxing Shipyard Completes Repair Works for CSCL Long Beach

CIC Changxing Shipyard Completes Repair Works for CSCL Long Beach

On 21st June, 2012, CIC Changxing Shipyard successfully completed the repair project of MV CSCL Long Beach. The subject vessel is a container vessel which belongs to one of Canadian companies. The main repair works covered E/R fans, motors, M/E fuel pump and windlass.

With the short repair period plus the tight docking schedule, the shipyard top management paid high attention to the vessels’ dry-docking time, ensured the docking period eventually. Many unexpected problems occurred during the repair project, especially for the windlass brake repair: the brake pins were too tight; the brake lining needed to be drilled as the upper and lower brake lining connection area bolts touched the connection area after the use of the bolts instead of rivets; The hole distance, in the upper and lower brake lining connection plate, could not meet the demand and was taken back to the workshop because the brake lining thickness was more than the original. Under the efforts of the workers, the brake lining was completed before planned undocking time.
