China: CIC Changxing Shipyard Repairs Vessel CSC CHANGHAI

On Feb 11, 2012, CIC Changxing Shipyard successfully completed crane jib renewal of MV CSC CHANGHAI. The subject vessel belongs to a Hong Kong company. The main work was to renew the No.2 crane jib, including the bearing inspection, sheave disassembling, measurement and the crane load test.

The original crane jib was heavily deformed due to the collision and difficult to remove. The shipyard arranged the experienced team to carry out the job. It was completely removed on the next day after drawing on collective wisdom and absorbing all useful ideas.

The new jib was sent to the shipyard on Feb. 9th and it was two days delay as per the schedule. The jib’s dimension were iffy as well. To satisfy the owner, the yard production department and workshop made a reasonable repair plan for the job, arranged the manpower to work overtime to rectify the jib. The new jib was installed late that night and the steel wire messenger was guided. On the second day, the yard installed the steel wire and carried out the load test, completed all the jobs in the afternoon. The vessel departed from the shipyard on February 11th.
