SPCC Ranks Yiu Lian Dockyards as China's No.1 Ship Repair Yard in 2011

Based on the statistical information from the 39th Session of SPCC Conference which was held in Shanghai last month,  Yiu Lian Dockyards (Shekou) Ltd., was ranked No.1 on 2011 annual turnover among the main ship repair yards throughout China.

The year of 2011 was a hard year for all the shipping and shipping related company. The global economy affected continuously by the worldwide financial tsunami together with the downgraded credit rating of the USA and the worsening debt crisis in Europe. The shipping market kept in recession and still wandered at the bottom. Thus, the ship repair industry, as a downstream sector of shipping industry, continuously suffered from the unprecedented impacts, and most of ship repair yards in China experienced the shrunken business in different scale.

Although in such a severe situation, Yiu Lian Dockyards (Shekou) Ltd., with the hard work and effort of all the employees, including the management team and all the staff, achieved a total RMB 1.85 billion annual turnover in 2011 and completed total 223 vessel (project)’s repairing and / or conversion, including three conversion projects of VLCC to VLOC, one conversion project of offshore cargo and launching barge, one comprehensive repairing of FPSO, the serious repairs for total 8 mega container carriers of Maersk Line and etc.. Compared with 2010, the annual turnover has gained an increasing by 16%, among the main Chinese ship repair yards, it is the first time for Yiu Lian Shekou to become No.1 on the annual turnover.

Yiu Lian Dockyards (Shekou) Ltd believes that this achievement was benefit from the fruitful marketing work, continuous cost control and the reasonable production structure. Its philosophy is to compete with other Chinese ship repair yards in a different way, the company won the market by offering the best service, reliable quality and on-time re-delivery, not by the lower price level. Yiu Lian Dockyards also focused on the so called high value-added products such as offshore repairing and conversion, tanker repairing and conversion, mega container carrier repairing. All these helped the yard to achieve its goal.

For 2012, the yard had a good start already, at present there are 17~18 vessels under repairs in the yard every day on average. Meanwhile, company secured about 70 vessel’s order at hand, and these will ensure the yard to have a stable work load for the first quarter of the year.
