CLNG Commends Passing of LNG Exports Bill

The House of Representatives passed H.R. 6, the “Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act” by a vote of 266 to 150.

The bill brings regulatory certainty to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) permitting process for liquefied natural gas exports by instating a 30-day decision deadline following a project’s National Environmental Policy Act review.

Following the vote, Center for Liquefied Natural Gas President Bill Cooper said in a statement: “The Center for Liquefied Natural Gas (CLNG) applauds the House of Representatives’ bipartisan action to provide regulatory certainty to the permitting process for LNG export applications by the DOE by imposing a deadline as to when the department must act. Today, both Republicans and Democrats have made it clear that U.S. LNG exports are in the public interest.”

“The passage of H.R. 6 sends a strong signal that the United States is committed to its role as an energy leader on the world stage. U.S. LNG exports will provide tens of billions of dollars in capital investment and create thousands of jobs here at home, while also contributing a reliable supply of natural gas to the global marketplace,” added Cooper.

“With growing bipartisan and bicameral support, the right policies can be put in place to ensure that our wealth of natural gas will benefit the U.S. trade balance, U.S. foreign policy and the energy security of our trading partners around the world,” he said.
