CMA CGM Selects VINCI to Extend Kingston Port

French container shipping company CMA CGM has awarded a USD 147 million contract to a joint venture consisting of Jan de Nul, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and EMCC, to extend the port of Kingston, Jamaica.

The contract covers the refurbishment, reinforcement and upgrade to seismic standards of 1,200 meters of quays.

In addition, the joint venture will carry out dredging work in the access channel.

“The operation will increase the alongside depth of the quays to enable them to handle container ships of larger capacity,” VINCI said.

The projects are expected to be completed in 25 months.

The port of Kingston is located at the crossroads between the North/South and East/West sea lanes, near the recently inaugurated Panama Canal.

Since July 1, 2016, CMA CGM has held the concession for the port which consists of three terminals with a rated capacity of 2.8 million TEUs.
