Cochin Shipyard in LNG shipbuilding pact with Engineers India

Cochin Shipyard signed a memorandum of understanding with Engineers India for the design and construction of small-scale liquefied natural gas carriers. 

Under the MoU which is a part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative launched by the government, the two companies will jointly design nd build small-scale LNG carriers, CSL said in a statement.

The agreement covers the cooperation for the vendor development, training and the certification process of skilled manpower.

It should create an LNG value chain ecosystem to cater to the coastal and inland water transport segment in the Indian subcontinent, the statement reads.

Cochin Shipyard has already been granted the license by GTT of France to build LNG carriers with the Mark III membrane containment system.

It has also been granted approval by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs to build a new dry dock at the shipyard to enable construction and repair of larger vessels such as LNG carriers.
