Comer Industries to Take Part in WindEnergy Hamburg

Comer Industries will be participating at WindEnergy Hamburg, the international trade expo for global onshore and offshore manufacturers in the wind sector, to be staged at the Hamburg Messe exhibition centre in Hamburg, Germany, September 23 – 26, 2014 (Hall B6, Stand 339).

Comer Industries to Take Part in WindEnergy HamburgWith sound technical skills and a proven track record of installations on turbines, Comer Industries designs, manufactures and sells yaw and pitch drives for wind power generators, from sub-megawatt to utility scale sized machines.

Since Comer Industries’ initial implementation of its drive solutions in megawatt platform in 1997, the company has been making significant investment in applied research, technology and innovation, solely focused on product integrity and reliability. In 2001, a dedicated team was established and state-of-the-art, industry specific test benches were added at the company’s Mechatronics Research Center. In 2011, Comer Industries further invested in a 54-m3 climatic cell at the Center, allowing for testing under extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to 80°C. In 2012, Comer Industries’ yaw systems were installed on 7-Mw turbines and in 2013 also on 8-MW turbines.

Thanks to its world class engineering knowledge and track record, Comer Industries has an undisputed leading position in off-shore wind applications. One example is the 175-turbine, 630- MW London Array, UK wind farm.

To support its operating excellence goals, the Comer Production System (CPS) was implemented in 2006. CPS optimizes the manufacturing processes using lean manufacturing principles. In 2007 and 2008, further investments were made to build new production plants for yaw and pitch drives in Matera, Italy and in Shaoxing, China. In 2012, the Matera plant was further expanded, reaching 19,200 m2, and equipped with the latest manufacturing technologies, such as heat treatment and coating.

Solutions on show at WindEnergy Hamburg are the result of Comer Industries’ product evolution over the years. For example, new high torque density yaw drives were introduced to the market in 2009 and further enhanced to boost efficiency and compactness.

Comer Industries’ display will include the PG-1603 DSP and the PG-1904 yaw drives. PG-1603 DSP, featuring a built-in torque limiter, is distinguished by high torque density and reduced on-site maintenance. PG-1904 is characterized by premium efficiency, high power density for better space utilization within the nacelle, requiring very low maintenance.

Comer Industries will also showcase the PG-4205 LFPE yaw drive, a highly-efficient solution with high torque capability and the PGA-703 LFPE pitch drive, featuring a robust output configuration and reduced back lash.
